Moving to New York City from Toronto, Emily van Beek was driven by a dream to work in children's publishing and inspired by the mantra, "Leap and the net will appear." She began her career as an editor at Hyperion Books for Children before transitioning to literary agenting, a role she quickly fell in love with. For six and a half years, she served as an agent and rights director at Pippin Properties, Inc., before joining Folio Jr. as a partner and literary agent. Emily represents a distinguished list of clients, including New York Times bestselling and award-winning authors such as Jenny Han, Morgan Matson, Siobhan Vivian, Adele Griffin, Philip & Erin Stead, Matthew Reinhart, Julie Morstad, and Sydney Smith, alongside striking debut and emerging voices. As an editorial agent, she is passionate about negotiating the best possible deals, collaborating with esteemed subsidiary and contracts teams to maximize a property's potential, and helping her clients publish books that endure.
