About the Agent

After college, Marcia Wernick traveled and worked in Europe before finding her calling in children's publishing in New York City. She began her career at the Sheldon Fogelman Agency in subsidiary rights, eventually becoming director of subsidiary rights. Having attended the Bologna Children's Book Fair more than a dozen times, she relished the international camaraderie of the children's book industry. Realizing that working directly with authors and illustrators brought her the most joy, Marcia transitioned to agenting. She became a full-time agent, bringing many talented authors and illustrators to the agency. Among the clients she introduced to the children's book publishing world are Bryan Collier, Diane Stanley, Alexandra Boiger, and Mo Willems. Her clients now range from well-established creators to those just beginning their careers. Marcia continues to leverage her subsidiary rights experience in the foreign rights side of Wernick & Pratt Agency and works with film agents on the licensing of motion picture and television rights. She has also enjoyed licensing merchandising rights, including ringtones, game apps, plush dolls, pajamas, backpacks, toys, and games.
